Cotton On Group’s lifestyle brand Typo opened its first physical store in the UK this week, with three additional stores to come to Britain in the coming months.

The new 130 square metre London store in Westfield Statford City is the start of a retail rollout from the Australian group, who is eyeing the UK and Europe as major markets to boost revenues.

In September, Cotton On Group's CEO, Peter Johnson, told local media it would open another 250 stores globally this financial year, pushing total revenue past $2 billion. And for the first time, the majority of sales would come from outside of Australia.

"While there continues to be growth in the Australian market through all of our brands and also the e-commerce channel, the reality is that they'll be greater opportunities throughout the rest of the world," Johnson told SMH.

Typo tested the British waters nine months ago with the launch of its first online retail presence in the UK. A success it was, and now Cotton On Group estimates 100 Typo stores will bow in the the UK over the next five years.

Founded in 1991 by Nigel Austin, the company started out as a fashion retailer, Cotton On. Since then, it has steadily built a vast fashion and lifestyle portfolio including brands Cotton On Kids, Cotton On Body, Factorie, Supre, Rubi and Typo.

Cotton On Group operates more than 1,300 stores in 17 countries and employs over 19,000 staff.
