Tech specialist Vyking — which has offices in Berlin and London — has launched a new product called Flex to deepen its augmented reality (AR) offer for fashion and sports brands but targeting consumers rather than just those brands.

The company’s AR products are already used by mega labels including Adidas, Louis Vuitton and Crocs. And it said that with Flex, creators, artists, and brands can develop and release digital fashion collections as NFTs.

Co-founder and Chief Product Officer Thibault Marion de Procé said: “The world around us is changing rapidly as the pace of culture continues to move in lock-step with that of technology. We saw a unique opportunity to leverage our proven AR technology that powers AR experiences for leading brands into a user and creator-centric application that combines real ownership and AR with the expanding world of digital fashion. Flex is a game-changer for digital fashion.”

The next generation application means the NFTs can be displayed and stored in AR, allowing consumers to make the most of their digital fashion collections.

The tech has been unveiled in recent days at the Block/Space area presented by Tezos as SXSW 2022.

The company is calling its new product a major leap forward that combines the very latest tech with true digital ownership.

It uses the firm’s own AR try-on technology to bring that ownership to life and it said that “in the same way that the clothes you wear in real life tell the story of who you are and how you feel, so will digital fashion be flexed across the metaverse. Once collected, users will be able to access their NFTs in the Flex app and 'flex' their sneaker NFTs with the AR technology that automatically overlays the digital sneakers, displaying items in Instagram-worthy pictures that can be shared on social media”.
