Varsity jackets trending for men this autumn says BoohooMan

Expect American sports-style varsity jackets to be the hit of the autumn/winter season for UK men. Demand for varsity jackets has soared by 400% over the last two months, according to new research by fashion retailer BoohooMan, which highlighted a sharp rise in related searches on Google Trends.

Searches spiked by 268% towards the end of August, showing the style of jackets are turning out to be the hottest male fashion trend of the AW21 season, it confirmed. 

Meanwhile, Data from TikTok also shows #varsityjacket has over 20.1 million views, “which further illustrates the growing amount of consumer hype for this trend”, it added. 

Searches have also soared since Netflix released its new weekly episodes of Riverdale season 5, which features the programme’s varsity jacket-wearing central character Archie Andrews, played by KJ Apa. 

Recently, Love Island winner Liam Reardon was also spotted sporting a one on the Love Island Reunion Night Out. Meanwhile, South Korea’s K-Pop bands are also influencing the trend, with a number of them also sporting the jackets.

“While more and more celebrities continue wearing these jackets, we expect the trend to continue gaining momentum across the UK”, noted BoohooMan.

John McKinney, Head of Digital Marketing, added: “We have been watching consumer interest in varsity jackets increase steadily over the last year, but the recent spike has caught all of us by surprise.”
