Uniqlo Japan saw sales boom in May

Published
Jun 6, 2022

Fast Retailing’s Uniqlo has delivered a second successive dose of good news as far as sales in its domestic Japanese market are concerned.

Uniqlo

Following April’s return to sales growth, the giant retail chain said May’s same-store sales including online increased by 17.5% year on year. And total sales rose by an even bigger 19.8%.

The sharp increase was mainly due to buoyant Golden Week and Uniqlo anniversary sales, as well as strong sales of core summer ranges.

The company’s seasonal sales are frequently either impacted or boosted by the wrong or right weather and mild autumn and winter temperatures or a chilly spring and summer climate can derail sales of core ranges.

The sales success last month came as customer numbers were buoyant, easily outstripping the average so far this year. And importantly, the average purchase per customer was elevated too. That combination of more shoppers and each one spending more was key to driving that high double-digit rise.
