Molton Brown, a British bath and body care brand owned by Kao, has set its sights on Japan as it ramps up its Asian expansion strategy.

The launch of the new collection marks Molton Brown's first big venture into the fragrance world - Kao Corporation

The British personal care brand, founded in 1971, was acquired by Japan’s Kao Corporation in 2005.

In the UK it is famous for its luxurious range of energising body washes and indulgent lotions, but Kao is planning to build its fragrance credentials with the launch of a new high-end eau de parfum and eau de toilette luxury collection this September.

The launch of this collection will help establish the brand as a fine fragrance house, announced Kao in a statement.

The Japanese owner is also looking to further expand its business operations in Asia, and grow Molton Brown’s presence in the travel retail space with new partnerships with hotels and airlines in Japan and other Asian countries.

The premium brand opened a flagship store in New Delhi, India last year, joining an extensive list of Molton Brown standalone shops and stockists located in 72 countries.

Since its inception in 1971, Molton Brown has been committed to retaining its British heritage, and it holds a Royal Warrant for the supply of toiletries to The Queen.
