Last December, Intersport International Corporation announced the departure of Ingmar Kraak, the CEO of its sneaker brand The Athlete's Foot. As the executive prepares to leave the group in April, Slovenia's Mateja Jesenek has been announced as his successor.

She was previously responsible for the group's activity in the Balkans where the group said it recorded a regional turnover of 130 million euros last year, with a team of 1,100 employees. Before joining Intersport, the director was part of the management committee of the Slovenian distribution specialist, Mercator.

The 51-year-old manager has overseen strong growth in her area at The Athlete's Foot since 2017, leading to Slovenia being named the "The Athlete's Foot Country of the Year". Jesenek will be able to apply her methods at the global level in her new role, where she will join a team of top managers at Intersport group in Amsterdam including Steve Evers, the director of Intersport operations.

Today, the group's sneaker brand has 537 stores in 31 countries and had a turnover of 363 million euros last year. The share of the brand acquired by Intersport in 2012 is still small within the group's business, which saw a turnover of 11.9 billion euros in 2018.
