The Body Shop is expanding its presence in Spain with the launch of its first concession in a Corte Ingles store.

The Body Shop has launched a shop-in-shop in a Corte Ingles store in Barcelona, Spain - The Body Shop

For the debut, the British cosmetics brand has chosen a Corte Ingles store in Barcelona. With over 55 stores in Spain, El Corte Ingles is the country’s largest department store chain. The Barcelona shop-in-shop is expected to be followed by further openings throughout the year.

“We are confident this will be the first of many,” said Sonia Lopez, general manager for The Body Shop Iberia.

The British company is undergoing difficult times as sales continue to decline due to a highly competitive market. As a result, owner L'Oréal has begun to look for a buyer for the chain. L'Oréal bought The Body Shop in 2006. US bank Goldman Sachs, CVC Capital Partners and investor Emmanuel Osti are believed to be bidding for the retailer.

Founded by Anita Roddick in Brighton in 1976, The Body Shop sells more than 900 skincare products, body butters, make-up and fragrances. The chain has over 3,000 stores spread over 66 countries.
