Survey on European women's fashion

Among the findings that emerged from auFeminin.com’s survey, one thing was common to all: European women “have nothing to wear”. At least that is what 67% of Spanish, 57% of Italian, 54% of German, 53% of French and 40% of English women surveyed said.

But those women have very different tastes when it comes to fashion. The Italians and Spanish dream about owning a pair of Louboutin shoes, while British women affirm their reputation by putting a designer vintage coat at the top of their wish list. Germans, for their part, desire a little leather jacket that is “so fashionable right now”, whereas the French ladies prefer to have a designer bag.

In regards to their shopping habits, European women agree between themselves that it is the looks of a shop window that will influence their purchase the most, way more than any publicity or recommendations from fashion magazines. Half of them also admit being influenced by other girls walking past on the streets. In France, 25% of online users surveyed said that they take their inspirations from fashion blogs.

Internet shopping proved to be popular in many countries, with 70% of English, 67% of German and 50% of French women doing so nowadays. However, this move from physical to virtual shopping has not spread as much in other regions, with 72% of women from Spain, 76% from Italy and even 44% from France claiming that they have never made this kind of purchase over the Internet. However, there was less reluctance from the side of British and German women, where only 28% and 35% respectively said to never have bought clothes online.

This survey was carried out by auFeminin.com during Summer 2010 with 3,822 French, 2,136 Italian, 1,067 German, 1,439 Spanish et 263 British women.
