The partnership between Eric Bergère and Smalto has ended. Arriving in June 2016, the creative director quit the men's luxury suiting firm, effective October 31.

The designer will be able to focus on his consulting business, a venture started several seasons ago for the brand Inès de la Fressange Paris, where he works on ready-to-wear collections.

At Smalto, Bergère's departure follows the recent appointment of Agnès Sarah Espinasse to the role of CEO, replacing Bernard Flobert. As previously announced on FashionNetwork.com Premium, the new CEO has been tasked with the brand's relaunch and return to profitability.

Espinasse's experience in company "turnarounds" means she is likely transform the house via a sale by the majority shareholder, Alain Duménil.

The company declined to comment on Bergère's leaving, and did not confirm how or when a replacement would come to join the renewed Smalto ranks. He served as head designer for the brand's bespoke and ready-to-wear suit collections.
