London-based fashion brand Qasimi remains under family control. Following founder Khalid Al Qasimi’s death in July, the brand has announced that his twin sister Hoor Al Qasimi will take over as creative director.

She will be responsible for all creative and business activities of the brand. Qasimi’s design team will continue to be led by Adam Rice.

“Hoor will endeavour to preserve – and further – Khalid’s legacy and make sure that his memory is kept alive,” the brand said, paying homage to its creator who died at his home in London in July in circumstances described by UK authorities as unexplained.

The late crown prince from the United Arab Emirates founded his eponymous brand after graduating from Central Saint Martins in London.

Hoor Al Qasimi was also educated in the UK, but her background is in art. Trained at the Slade School of Fine Art, Hoor is a practicing artist and curator, as well as the president and founding director of Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) and Sharjah Biennial, a large-scale contemporary art exhibition that takes place once every two years in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

She also sits on the board of many museums including MoMA PS1 in New York.

Spring Summer 2021 will be her first collection for the Qasimi brand, launching in June 2021. Fans of the label can expect a continuation of Khalid’s urban aesthetic underpinned by architecture, colour and military details, with the new creative director vowing to stay true to his vision.
