NYC Textile Week: Texworld, Kingpins and MRket come together

Published
Dec 11, 2014

From 19 to 21 January, three textile and sourcing trade fairs will join forces to establish themselves as a key event in the sector's calendar: the Texworld USA trade fair, the Kingpins denim event, and the gathering dedicated to menswear retail distribution MRket.

The event will take place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Texworld USA and MRket, which, last January respectively brought together 162 and 320 exhibitors, will open the event on 19 January. They will be joined the following morning by Kingpins, which, one year earlier brought together some fifty denim companies.

This first edition will serve as a trial run for the new gathering, before a more official launch during a second edition already announced for July 2015, according to the American press. The goal in particular is to incite other New York trade fairs in the textile sector to take place during NYC Textile Week.

"In the long-term, we hope that other trade fairs will want the same thing as us and will exhibit alongside us on the same dates," Andrew Olah has already said, founder of Kingpins and organiser of the new event.

"NYC Textile Week will be the link between all the textile events taking place in New York and will propose a rich and diverse offering for participants from all over the world," Dennis Smith happily said for his part, President of Messe Frankfurt USA, organiser of Texworld.

It remains to be seen what will become of this cluster and the other professional trade fairs of the sector susceptible to joining the group. If we exclude the fashion and accessories events at the beginning of January (Fame, Accessories The Show, Moda, Intermezzo and Accessorie Circuit), could this possibility attract Childrens Club, Project New York, NYC Mac Show, or even Antique Textile Show&Sale?

One thing is certain: for the moment it is hard to imagine the participation of Première Vision New York, scheduled for 13 and 14 January, i.e. the following week. Already a direct competitor in Paris, Shanghai and, most recently, Istanbul, with the organiser of Texworld, the French organiser also had an additional adversary this year with Kingpins in Amsterdam, via a denim trade fair competing with its Barcelona-based Denim by Première Vision.
