Master Debonair to expand Northern flagship
Apr 3, 2019
At a time when many UK retailers are seeking to close or downsize stores and when Northern England is proving particularly weak, it’s interesting that independent menswear brand Master Debonair is thriving and is planning to radically expand its existing flagship.
The store, in East Boldon in the Northeast of England, is going to be turned into a three-storey location after the brand acquired the property next door.
The three-year-old company has major expansion lined up for this year with other new stores also planned. Late in 2018 it opened its first London store with a flagship on Commercial Street in the East of the city near busy Spitalfields.
The new East Boldon location should be ready next month and will allow the brand to sell its expanded own-label offer as well as more branded tailoring, shoes and accessories.
Co-founder Eve Whitaker described it as “the ultimate man cave” and said it “will offer a completely brand new in-store experience for our customers. We have lots of ideas in the pipeline, with more to be revealed over the coming weeks.”
As well as the London store, the company has also opened a webstore that should help its ambition to increase sales from around £2 million a year ago to £6 million in 2019.
