Maison Margiela strengthens presence in Milan

Maison Margiela is continuing to expand rapidly, taking advantage of the new dynamic produced by John Galliano’s appointment last fall as its new artistic director.

The Parisian brand, which is owned by Renzo Rosso’s company OTB (Diesel, Marni, Viktor & Rolf etc.), is opening a flagship store in Milan, a few months after having opened its first store, dedicated to accessories, in the new Porta Nuova neighborhood.

Maison Margiela’s new store in Milan is located in the quadrilatero della moda, where it happens to already have another store!

Its latest opening is situated on 5 Via Sant'Andrea, not far from Via della Spiga, where the brand opened its first Italian store in 2007... The latter, which is smaller (1,830 ft2) and more discreet since it is located in a courtyard, now only houses Maison Margiela men's collections and its contemporary women's line MM6.

The new space on Via Sant'Andrea, which covers 3,200 ft² and two floors, will be dedicated in turn to Maison Margiela’s women’s collections, with ready-to-wear and accessories on the ground floor, and its "Artisanal" haute couture collection in a suite on the first floor, alongside footwear.

As for the decor, it features Haussmannian ceilings, wood floors, Wood Skin surfaces and optical illusion techniques that create "a unique blend between modern and classic styles," the house said in a statement.

The brand now has 35 directly managed stores, and should be adding another to that list in April with a new flagship store in San Francisco.
