London department store Liberty has named Rhea Cartwright to lead its beauty buying, a key role for the store as beauty is a huge part of its mix.

It’s an unusual appointment as her background is in brand strategy, development, and marketing. She’s been a consultant for high-end beauty brands, as well as creating content for publications like Vogue, The Zoe Report, Refinery29, Marie Claire and Net-A-Porter.

Cartwright said she’s “committed to ensuring that we have a world-class brand and service proposition that not only quenches the curiosity of our existing customers but also appeals to new customers and brand partners too. The market has an unmatched appetite for beauty and our job now is to continue to rethink retail and demonstrate our long-term vision across the entire Liberty ecosystem.”

As mentioned, beauty is a key category for the retailer and Cartwright’s content background is signifiant because the company rates content very highly. Only last month it launched a new bi-annual beauty newspaper called The Hall.

Providing breaking beauty news, trends, practical advice, user reviews and expert recommendations, it’s being sent to 50,000 registered Liberty Loyalty customers twice a year and is available for visitors in the store’s beauty hall.
