Kansai Yamamoto is back with a new collection

Published

A benchmark in Japan in the 1970s and 80s with a ready-to-wear apparel brand greatly influenced by the Momoyama period (end of the sixteenth century), Kansai Yamamoto was celebrated the world over, from Tokyo to the USA and London, where he created David Bowie's stage costumes.

After closing down his brand in 1992, and launching eyewear and table art licenses, the Japanese designer earned worldwide fame chiefly by holding spectacular shows that combined fashion, music and video, as well as by outfitting Lady Gaga for her Japanese tour.

Nearly 45 years after the presentation of his first collection, Kansai Yamamoto thus returns to fashion design with a new line labelled Kansai. The mood is young and contemporary, as always inspired by art, fashion and music, and distilling iconic design codes - the kiss, the colours red, white and black - into an urban, graphic look.

His first collection will be showcased at the PLC Paris showroom (Avellino, M’s Braque, MII…) from 1st to 3rd October.
