Ikea Netherlands celebrates 75th year with limited edition clothing

Ikea Netherlands has launched a limited edition clothing line to celebrates the furniture and lifestyle retailer’s 75th birthday.

The collection includes T-shirts and sweaters for men and women that reference well known Ikea elements and phrases such as Billy is my homeboy, which refers to the popular Billy bookcase by the retailer. Another phrase says, I do not want to be picked up from Smaland, which applies to the Ikea playground.

The collection is available from November 1 at six Ikea branches across the country, including Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Utrecht. T-shirts retail at €9.95 and sweaters are priced at €19.95.

According to Dutch newspaper Het Algemeen Dagblad, each Ikea branch will stock about several hundred of each item. However, Ikea Netherlands said on Instagram that the collection will also be available in the coming weeks via promotions on its social media channels.

Ikea Netherlands is part of the Ingka Group (formerly Ikea Group), which is the largest franchisee of the Ikea concept and operates as many as 367 Ikea stores in 30 markets and employs 158,500 people.

In the Netherlands, the brand has 12 stores that fall under Ingka, and one concept store, Ikea Delft, that is owned by Inter Ikea Systems. Inter IKEA Systems owns the Ikea concept and global franchisor. In FY18 (the 12 months to August 31), the turnover of Ikea Netherlands’ franchises totalled €38.8 billion.
