After appointing Urun Gursu as chief product officer, German fashion label Gerry Weber now has a fully operational executive committee again, ready to lead the label through the crisis it is currently facing. The Gerry Weber group, owner of the Gerry Weber and Hallhuber brands, is going through a troubled patch, and filed for insolvency proceedings last January, heralding a recovery plan putting jobs at risk. At the end of last year, the group's president resigned, replaced by a new collective governance team.

Gursu, the new chief product officer, comes from Esprit and is taking charge of product development and creation for all of the group's labels. He is also the head of the group's new centralised purchasing department, including overseas offices and inbound logistics.

Gursu will start in his new role on March 1, and is joining the group's executive committee alongside Johannes Ehling, chief sales and chief digital officer, also the committee spokesperson, and chief restructuring officer Florian Frank.

“We are delighted to start working soon with Urun Gursu, a senior manager with a remarkable track record of success in fashion, an industry he has an in-depth knowledge of,” said Ehling.

Despite the structural difficulties, the Gerry Weber group has repositioned itself in the last few months. “The collections for the spring and summer have been well received by our commercial partners, something that is very inspiring for us. Urun Gursu knows the process of vertical value-creation very well and, with Florian Frank and myself, he will push our repositioning forward significantly,” said Ehling.

Before joining Esprit in Düsseldorf as head of merchandising men Europe, Gursu also worked for nearly 10 years at Mango in Spain, as chief product officer and member of the executive committee until 2017.
