The Fashion Trust Arabia (FTA) competition for emerging designers is organizing its award ceremony’s fourth edition which will feature a new advisory board and a partnership with Turkey as the guest country for this year’s edition. "In only a few short years, the FTA Awards have become established as an annual highlight of the international fashion calendar. This dazzling quick success testifies to the vibrancy of the burgeoning fashion industry in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region and the astonishing depth of talent among its designers," stated Sheikha Al-Mayassa, co-founder of FTA and chairperson of Qatar Museums and Doha Film Institute.

FTA, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting emerging fashion industry players in the MENA region, revealed its program for 2022. The fashion award for designers from these countries will be able to compete in the following categories: ready-to-wear, eveningwear, accessories, jewelry and the Franca Sozzani Debut Talent Award. The latter is for students or graduate fashion designers who earned their degree within the last three years. They will have to submit a portfolio presenting their final womenswear collection.

The presentation of the finalists and the award ceremony will take place the week of October 24, 2022. The board of advisors will be in charge of selecting the 24 finalists that will present their work to the FTA jury. Applicants must be from the Middle East or North Africa or operate a part of their business in these countries to be elegible to participate.

The four winners selected will receive a financial grant estimated to be between 95,000 and 190,000 euros. The winner of the Franca Sozzani Award will receive a grant of 23,700 euros as well as mentorship from industry professionals to help jumpstart his or her business. The winning designers will also benefit from a one-year partnership with London-based international luxury retailer matchesfashion.com.

In 2021, Colombia was among the list of participating countries. For this year’s edition, emerging Turkish designers are Fashion Trust Arabia's new guests of honor. They will have their own designated award: the Guest Country Award, which will reward a Turkish fashion designer specializing in women's ready-to-wear. “The partnership with Turkey represents an opportunity for young designers from the MENA region and Turkey to be exposed to each other’s markets and exchange knowledge,” Fashion Trust Arabia told press.

This year's advisory board continues to bring together industry talent, including British GQ Editor-in-chief Adam Baidawi, Artistic Director of Repossi house Gaia Repossi, and founder and Creative Director of Aquazurra Edgardo Osorio. "It is always such an honor to have the support of some of the most renowned names in the industry. We are grateful for their participation in shortlisting FTA's finalists," said Tania Fares, FTA co-founder and British Fashion Council ambassador.
