Following on from Valentino and Saint Laurent, it is now Dolce & Gabbana’s turn to set sail for Venice, Italy. The Italian luxury brand will organise an event in the historic city from August 28 to 30 centring around its traditional couture offering. However, on this occasion, the brand will also unveil its very first line dedicated to the home as well as an original Alta Moda digital collection using NFTs.

Dolce & Gabbana presented its most recent couture collection at the end of 2020 with a fashion film broadcast online. The Milanese fashion house headed by designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana is now ready to set out on a trip to present a physical showcase.

The brand launched its ‘Alta Moda’ line in 2012 then added its ‘Alta Sartoria’ line for men in 2014 along with a fine jewellery line. Since then, Dolce & Gabbana has become accustomed to revealing its most prestigious collections at a different iconic location in Italy with past shows taking place in Palermo, Portofino, Naples, and Florence. This year, the brand has announced Venice as its location of choice.

Without revealing for the moment exactly where in Venice  its festivities will take place, Dolce & Gabbana announced in a press release that, “some of the most iconic places in the City of the Doges will serve as a setting for unique designs, the fruits of the craftsmanship and creativity of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, in a dialogue with the precious heritage represented by local manufacturing and artistic excellence.” On the occasion of such a type of presentation, the design duo often relies on local artisans, whose work they gladly acknowledge.

Dolce & Gabbana will launch the ‘Dolce & Gabbana Casa’ project during the upcoming event, its first line dedicated to homeware. The group has ambitious plans for this new product diversification and has recently created a dedicated division of the business for it, led by Fedele Usai, its new director of communications and marketing.

No details have been released about the project so far. However, according to some market sources cited by the Italian press, the collection will be made up of design objects and furniture made entirely in Italy. Sources also said that the brand will open a showroom in the heart of Milan along with around 10 boutiques.

Finally, Dolce & Gabbana will also unveil its first digital couture collection in Venice and get involved in the recent craze for NFTs (non fungible tokens). These are unique digital assets which cannot be reproduced and are linked to the blockchain digital ledger concept.

The capsule collection of digital couture models is titled ‘Collezione Genesi’ and is inspired by Venetian history as well as traditions around the theme of “the dream dress”. Some looks from the collection will be unveiled in a preview. The collection itself will be auctioned off from September 1 exclusively on UNXD, a new platform operated by Polygon network which will launch this summer with the aim of becoming the benchmark in the world of digital luxury.

Dolce & Gabbana reported sales of €1.1 billion ($1.29 billion) in the 2019/ 2020 financial year. This represents a drop if 14.5% compared to the previous financial year and the business had a net loss of €106 million.
