Decathlon is continuing its international expansion. Following Thailand and Slovakia at the end of 2015, the French brand specializing in sports goods has indicated on its website that it is preparing to land on Australian soil.
First off, Decathlon will launch its Australian e-commerce website in April, before opening physical stores probably sometime before the end of the year.
Sylvain Baudens explained to the Australian newspaper, Financial Review, that the French retailer will open 35 to 40 Australian stores over the next 10 years.
Since October 2015, Sylvain Baudens is Chief Financial officer of Decathlon Australia. He was previously Chief Financial officer of Decathlon United Kingdom for 5 years.
In 2015, Decathlon and all of its activities totalled 9.1 billion euros in turnover, up by 12 percent. The brand which holds 1031 stores (about 300 in France) in 28 counties, generates 65 percent of its sales internationally.
