David Meire has left his post as chief client officer at Spanish clothing retailer Desigual after two years to pursue a new career opportunity.

“David Meire left his role at Desigual on August 2. Alberto Ojinaga, chief executive officer of Desigual will assume [Meire’s] responsibilities,” a company spokesperson told FashionNetwork.com. Meire’s departure comes after the former CCO lost his authority within the company following Thomas Meyer’s return to ownership, according to Modaes.

A graduate from Esade, the executive made his name at US sportswear giant Nike, where he spent 19 years and rose to VP of the company’s football division in Western Europe. He joined Desigual in 2017 to succeed Pierre Cuilleret and became part of a leading trio alongside founder Thomas Meyer and managing director Alberto Ojinaga.

David Meire’s departure comes in a year marked by various changes at the helm of the business after Thomas Meyer acquired Eurazeo’s 10% stake to become the sole owner of Desigual. Nine months ago, the brand welcomed the arrival of a key executive in the form of Guillem Gallego, who joined from Nike to take up the role of chief marketing officer. The company also parted ways with French designer Jean-Paul Goude, and Thomas Meyer ousted several board members.

In the first half of the year, Desigual saw its profitability improve with EBITDA profits rising 22.1% to 27.2 million euros. This was despite a 10% decrease in sales to 290.7 million euros. As part of the company’s turnaround plan, set to conclude in 2020, Desigual presented a new brand identity in June.
