Colette star Sarah Andelman is back with new boutique 'Hello Miami'

Published
Dec 4, 2019

Sarah Andelman has opened a new boutique – a pop-up named 'Hello Miami' – in the city’s Design District, and it ain’t any Colette copy or twin.

It opened on Sunday for a mere eight days, timed around Art Basel Miami Beach art fair – the biggest magnet in this resort city for sophisticated tourists.

Mira Mikati’s own colorful range includes over-sized sequined pajamas for evening and playful crocheted ball bags - Hello Miami

Andelman has teamed up with Mira Mikati – a colorful Lebanese designer based in London – in this 4,000-square-foot store located at the Moore Building at 180 NE 40th Street.

“It’s been a little last minute! The Design District suddenly proposed the space and we decided let’s go for it. It’s been great fun to open this pop-up. But it’s no comparison with Colette,” Andelman told FashionNetwork.com.

Pharrell Williams even popped by the pop-up on Monday to witness an arty cutout of his own silhouette, holding his latest collab’. It’s a fancy cutlery set done with Christofle called 'Share'.

Like Colette, the store is certainly eclectic. Ranging from Pangaia, a line from Russian blogger Miroslava Duma; an uber-eco collection of t-shirts made of combinations of organic cotton and seaweed. Located close to Casetify, the design forward tech accessories for iPhones and Air Pods.

This concept shop even has a skate department – which presents the latest ideas by Vik Muniz, Brazil’s most famous artist. The proceeds from their sales will go to support Muniz’s social projects in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro.

Mikati’s own colorful range includes over-sized sequined pajamas for evening and playful crocheted ball bags.

“I think it’s a great place for collectors to come by to do some affordable shopping after they've seen lots of art, especially in this neighborhood, which is full of luxury name-brand stores,” argued Mikati.

Another natty brand was Amrose Paris, created by Océane Castanet, who has developed an intriguing line of hand crocheted sneakers. Océane was there this week to create bespoke sneakers, inspired by traditional Kurdish footwear.

At the windows there’s a pyramid of basketballs decorated with smileys, and a giant version three-wide in diameter in the corner, all from another resource -- Chinatown Market.

Plus, there is an innovative skincare Superflower, billed as everyday facial serum based on the new wonder ingredient CBD.

In a sense, the store’s theme is best summed up by a white sweatshirt by Mikati that is embroidered with the singe words: 'Just Chilling'.

Might they keep it open after Sunday?

“The Design District asked us to! So, let’s see?” smiled Mikati.

Since shuttering Colette in December 2017, Andelman has certainly not rested on her laurels. She’s been a busy consultant for the likes of Dover Street Market, and its new store in the Marais.

And in her latest incarnation, she has teamed up with the Louvre; co-branding its blockbuster Leonardo Da Vinci with Ladurée and, soon to be announced, a street-wear brand.

“I can’t say, just yet!" added Andelman.

How did she feel when she saw Colette as merely another mono-brand store, YSL?

“I think that Saint Laurent did a great job with their new store. So I am happy when I pass by and see that,” said Andelman, whose son attends a school nearby.
