Chanel names its latest ambassador, and literary lioness: Charlotte Casiraghi

Published
Dec 22, 2020

Chanel has announced the appointment of its latest ambassador, and a new literary lioness for the maison, the blue-blooded Charlotte Casiraghi of Monaco.

Casiraghi debuts her new role as ambassador and spokesperson for the house on January 1st, 2021. She will also be the face of the Spring-Summer 2021 Ready-to-Wear campaign photographed in Monaco by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

The decision continues a long link with Monaco for Chanel, strengthened notably when Karl Lagerfeld lived in the pearl-white La Vigie villa in the tiny principality; a friendship continued today by his successor Virginie Viard.

Lagerfeld even lensed Casiraghi in his 2012 book, The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's Classic Revisited, by Karl Lagerfeld and Carine Roitfeld,  probably the best-selling fashion photography book in history.

Casiraghi will also host a series of literary soirées, in the salons of the house’s historic headquarters at 31 rue Cambon, with the first scheduled for Tuesday January 26th, 2021. Viard and Casiraghi intend for these rendez-vous littéraires on rue Cambon to be themed encounters throughout 2021. The house will relay them on Chanel’s website and social networks, “bringing together female writers and actresses, in the company of friends of the House, to read, discuss and share their unique perspective on their own work or that of other historical or contemporary literary figures they hold dear,” it explained.

A not-infrequent front-row figure and boldface name at Chanel shows and events, Casiraghi has a degree in philosophy and a passion for literature and poetry. She is already President of the Rencontres Philosophiques de Monaco, an association that she founded in 2015, whose aim is to celebrate and promote philosophy through monthly themed events dedicated to reflection, discussion and the passing on of ideas.

The 11th in-line to the Monaco throne and a distinguished horse rider, Charlotte has taken part in several show-jumping competitions, and is also the patron of the Monte-Carlo International Jumping event.

Chanel’s other house ambassadors include Kristen Stewart, Lily-Rose Depp and Vanessa Paradis.
