Inditex has recruited Carlos Torretta, the husband of Marta Ortega and son of designer Roberto Torretta, to join the communications team in the e-commerce division of Zara.com.

He joined the company on 2 September, according to news agency Europa Press. His wife Marta Ortega is the daughter of Inditex’s founder and works in the design department of Zara Woman. The couple, which married in November last year, will be based at the company’s main headquarters in Arteixo, A Coruña.

The fine arts and PR graduate from Pace University in New York has a wealth of experience in the fashion and communications world. After working as a representative of the Society Management agency in New York for four years, he moved to a different role in Elite Model. In 2017 he became director of the agency in Spain.

His appointment represents another step in the company’s online strategy. In 2017, e-commerce sales experienced a 27% increase in sales to 3.2 billion euros. This means that online sales accounted for 14% of sales in the markets where the group has an integrated omnichannel presence. At the end of the financial year, Inditex’s global revenues rose 3% to 26.14 billion euros.

Additionally, e-commerce is one of the group’s main priorities. The company, owned by Amancio Ortega and headquartered in Arteixo, is currently building a new content production facility for Zara’s website. And one of the company’s top goals is to have all chains selling online everywhere in the world by 2020.
