Boohoo seeks larger London satellite HQ following brand buying spree

Manchester-based Boohoo Group is seeking to expand its office presence in London following recent acquisitions of the online business of London-based department store Debenhams and Arcadia labels Dorothy Perkins, Wallis and Burton.

The company currently occupies around 15,000 sq ft of space in the city’s Euston Tower, but the Evening Standard said property sources have suggested it’s looking to radically upsize with a satellite HQ of between 60,000 sq ft and 80,000 sq ft on its wishlist, possibly in London’s West End.

Boohoo hasn’t commented on the report, but we do know that the company’s recent brand buying spree means it’s expanding fast and that the businesses it has taken on recently do have strong London links.

Unlike rival ASOS, which is already based in the UK capital and which said it would retain 300 staff when it announced the acquisition of Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge and HIIT, Boohoo didn’t say whether it would be taking on any of the people who worked for the brands it bought. But the newspaper said “a number of employees” will move over to Boohoo, “including some from the buying, design and digital teams”.

If that’s the case, it’s good news for London fashion and also for the London property sector that has been devastated by the events of the past year.
