Avon is bringing together a range of initiatives under a new global programme that will aim to improve the lives of 100 million women a year.

The cosmetics giant said the new Stand4her plan will achieve this by helping women improve their earning potential through the sale of beauty products and their ability to live a safe and healthy life.

The programme will champion three ideals: the freedom to work in your own terms and in your own way; the power of beauty; and safe and healthy lives.

It comes after recent research commissioned by Avon with input from Oxford Economics found that women still feel they are held back from running their own businesses, despite 77% of women saying that working helps them feel more confident.

The Stand4her programme will encompass a number of initiatives launched by Avon in recent months, including the new Avon Academy, which will provide online training to 500,000 entrepreneurs every months via online videos, interactive learning modules and peer support.

Also under Stand4her are the Avon Fair for Her programme, which supports working conditions for 250,000 women across the firm’s supply chain; and the Avon Foundation for Women Scholarship Programme, created to help representatives and their families to cover educational costs.

The Avon Breast Cancer Promise, the Avon Promise to Help End Violence Against Women and Girls and Avon’s Global Women’s Employee Strategy will also be part of stand4her.

RENEWED PURPOSE

The company, which sells its products through millions of independent sales representatives across the world, will shift its focus to tackle the need to be perfect through a new brand strategy launching later in spring.

It said the Avon brand will aim to encourage self-expression and embrace women of all demographics, ethnicities, sexualities and ages.

Jan Zijderveld, Avon CEO, said: "Our core purpose has never been more relevant.  Today female economic participation in the workforce remains below that of men, but we can be an agent of change, challenges ingrained barriers and open up opportunities. With 100 million women who work with us and buy from us around the world, and millions more in the communities in which we operate, Avon has a critical role – alongside other partners – to make a real and lasting impact."
