Manchester United seems set on exploiting its pull with consumers by introducing another fashion collaboration shortly after announcing a True Religion link-up.

Football clubs and fashion brands are starting to realise there is a huge opportunity for growth in the football industry, with devoted fans happy to wear clothing and accessories bearing the logos of their favourite clubs.

And the trend is moving away from sportswear and into the realm of casualwear, as the latest Paul Smith x Manchester United collaboration shows. The clothing brand has been the official formalwear partner of Manchester United since 2008, but the brands have now expanded their links to include a capsule collection of accessories that go beyond the realm of sports.

Wool scarves, ties, cufflinks, socks, wash bags, laptop sleeves, leather wallets and card holders, and iPhone 8 cases make up the capsule collection, which centres around two photo prints featuring vintage Manchester United scarves and rosettes.

The prints have been used to decorate the leather accessories, while a striped design appears on the scarves and socks. The tie, with the famous Manchester United crest, is available in red or black.

The collaboration continues to build Manchester United’s fashion credentials after the UK football club released a denim line with leading American brand True Religion last month. The deal was a first for the club, and included both menswear and womenswear items.

Meanwhile, US basketball shoe brand Jordan has become the official kit supplier to Paris football club PSG, and a lifestyle range will range for fans including tracksuits, t-shirts, jackets and hats and caps.

The Paul Smith x Manchester United capsule collection is now available in selected Paul Smith shops and online, as well as the Manchester United Megastore in Old Trafford.
