Sephora USA, the American subsidiary of beauty retailer Sephora (LVMH group) is the object of a class action suit filed in the US for discrimination after having deactivated the online accounts of certain customers who it suspected of making bulk purchases for re-sale.

The lawsuit was filed last Tuesday in federal court in Manhattan by four American women of Chinese descent who say their accounts were deactivated earlier this month because they have Asian surnames.

Sephora assures that the alleged facts have been significantly distorted and that accounts were blocked in several countries following a crash on its website during an exclusive sale for loyal customers on 6 November.

LVMH has refused to comment on the issue.

The four plaintiffs claim to have lost all the loyalty points they accumulated by making purchases totaling several hundreds of dollars. Two of them, Xiao Xiao and Tiantian Zou, live in New York, and the two others, Jiali Chen and Man Xu, respectively live in Ohio and Philadelphia.
