Public School leaves NYFW again to launch direct-to-consumer model

Public School has once again exited the New York Fashion Week schedule, but this time in favor of a new direct-to-consumer model slated to launch in spring 2018.

The New York City-based label will not present its fall 2018 collection in February and will focus on its new direct-to-consumer model and ongoing collaborations.

Public School first left the fashion week schedule in 2016 to show in June and December. Founders Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne decided to make the label's runway shows co-ed and move them off the official schedule, so not to conflict with DKNY, where the duo served as co-Creative Directors.

However, the label, at the end of 2016, rejoined the fashion week schedule, after the pair split with DKNY.

The award-winning brand follows in the footsteps of many brands that recently left the NYFW schedule, including Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Tommy Hilfiger, and Rebecca Minkoff, all of which moved to new cities.

Another notable NYFW departure is Misha Nonoo, who began debuting her new collections on social media in 2016. Since exiting the schedule, the Bahrain-born designer has shifted her business to a direct-to-consumer model and this year launched a made-to-order service.
