Medellín flowers in front of international guests in Colombia

Published
Aug 2, 2010

Medellín's image becomes resonate with the world, since becoming known as the epicentre of Latin American fashion at Colombiamoda's trade show. This great fair event as well as its magnificent flower displays, the city of "eternal spring" welcomes visitors with a fashion trade show, a Fashion Week and an art spring fair.

International visitor-buyers anumerated 1463, a growth of 4.5% compared to 2009. National visitors-buyers totaled 7421, an increase of 8%. Commercial performance expected: 6.5 million US dollars, about 600 Colombian guests and international independents (unrelated to Proexport and Medellin City Cluster) more than in 2009, demonstrating the importance of Colombiamoda on the Americas' business agenda.

This time round, only the Venezuelan buyers let the show down as their numbers fell to 139 in 2010, from 350 in 2009 "The last year we have seen, for reasons that are not worth going into detail about, a decline in visits from our Venezuelan neighbours" said Carlos Eduardo Botero, Director of Inexmoda. This political problem between the countries was very influential in the industry in 2008 because Venezuela accounted for 60% of textiles and clothing exports to Colombia. To counteract this issue, Inexmoda proposed an internationalisation project to find new buyers. This proved to be very successful for the show's 21st time round.

In the different areas you can see Italy's Enjoy SRL, Levi's, Prada's Agatha Ruiz, Cotton USA, Bia Brazil; all amongst the major Colombian brands.

The show's highlights include Amelia Toro with her collection inspired by "Alice in Wonderland", and the collection presented by Mexican Alejandro Carlin renowned designer who has planned to expand his brand to the United States. Catwalks from La Senza, Leonisa, Holy Water Maaji delighted the international audience, with underwear and swimwear products which brought in high demand during the fair.

Inexmoda closed with an invitation to the next edition of Colombiamoda which will take place from 26 to 27 July, 2011.
