E-tailer Wehkamp and online grocery store Picnic have launched a partnership. From March 2, the Dutch companies are starting a trial in the city of Amersfoort in which customers of Picnic can hand in their Wehkamp returns to a Picnic delivery employee.

The partnership between Wehkamp and Picnic is the first of its kind in the country. To realize this, multiple logistics and ICT systems have been connected. The trial starts with returns, but both parties have the ambition to expand the cooperation with the delivery of Wehkamp orders. According to the e-tailer, the partnership with Picnic should reduce traffic as well as transport movements and CO2 emission.

Maarten Tibosch, COO Wehkamp, said in a press release: "We mainly serve families, who are often very busy. The partnership with Picnic gives the [Wehkamp] customer the choice to receive orders from different providers at one time. That saves a lot of time and space, so we think that customers will really appreciate this. Instead of operating multiple delivery vans, we are now combining this in a more sustainable and efficient manner.”

In November 2017, Wehkamp launched a bike delivery service in twelve Dutch cities together with DHL and the Dutch online bike courier company, Fietskoerier.nl. The partnerships are part of the company’s continued effort to make distribution more sustainable.

Wehkamp was founded in 1952 and started as a mail order company. In 2006, the company launched as an online department store. Today, the e-tailer has over 2 million customers, more than 500,000 web visitors per day and sends more than 10 million packages per year. The assortment consists of more than 400,000 different products from 2,000 brands, including Clinique, Falke, River Island, Supertrash and Swarovski. In addition to fashion and beauty, the company also sells products in the categories leisure and living.
