“The European board of C&A is very grateful for his service and dedication in completing his duties, and we wish him all the best in the future,” said the company in a press release on Monday.

Eelman joined the clothing retailer from Unilever three years ago as Chief Financial Officer. In addition to his role as CFO, he developed the brand’s omnichannel strategy and became Chief Operations Transformation Officer in September 2016, handing over his role as CFO to Tjeerd van der Zee. In his new position, Eelman was responsible for developing and driving the company’s transformation programme.

He oversaw the ongoing implementation of a lifestyle product management team in Brussels and Dusseldorf, and the reorganisation of the online business, the new supply chain and the new in-store fulfilment infrastructure for Central and Eastern Europe, scheduled to launch in spring 2019.

C&A operates almost 2,000 stores, including 1,500 in Europe, 479 in Germany and 130 in Austria, with a total of 60,000 employees. The company has also a presence in Mexico, Brazil and China.
